| Eastern Screech-owl (South Bristol, NY 5/12) |
I checked my cameras last night and lo and behold obtained my second capture of an owl, this one also an Eastern Screech-owl.
Notice that in this recent image, the screech-owl is on the ground. That is the edge of our backyard pond. I wonder if the large number of frogs drew him in. Or was it the insects?

I had the Attack set to take a 30-second video. Nothing super special.... the owl scratches and moves a little closer to the water. But it gets the imagination going. I watched a Barred Owl catch a frog in south Florida about 12 years ago and I sure would have liked to have a video of this guy doing the same....
Yeah, I remember hearing talk about this photo from field camp, I don't recall however seeing the photo. Not a bad picture though of the screech owl from camp. Geeze John how could you not post about such a blog worthy event. haha. Anyways, I definitely knew who you were talking about right away, camera trapping enthusiast and blogger describes Alyssa perfectly, she is missed around these parts. :)

ReplyDeleteAn interesting mystery, for sure. Along with hunting, it might be coming down for baths. One of my cam traps caught a great horned taking a late-night splash in a small pool a few years back.
